Scottish Courts

This preliminary report from Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service summarises the data on listed and unlisted court buildings in Scotland.

Following the listing of Glasgow Sheriff Court in 2013, Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) worked together to review all the listed and unlisted properties in the SCTS estate.

This preliminary report summarises the data on listed and unlisted court buildings in Scotland, and also provides a narrative summary of the building type to inform the listing review which took place during 2014-15.

There were 51 buildings reviewed as part of this project, of which 45 were already listed. As a result of the project, two courts were listed at category C and 41 existing listed building records were updated. These records now provide more information about why these buildings are special.

Download the preliminary report and visit our Heritage Portal to search for information about the listed court buildings.
